Laid Down to Give
Colleen Livingston
To the ones I love, I write this poem
It’s one that can’t be missed
It’s all about the ones I love
Who share in eternal bliss
I awoke this day in thought of prayer
Of how to serve this day
When everything seemed dull and dark
Even close to fade away
I recalled the moment when I was called
Out of the dark and ashes
I remembered that I gave it all to him
Who took my death and lashes
I know He paid the price for me
For this I shan’t forget
But on these days when all seems dark
I remember without regret
This is a poem of gratitude
A poem that sees me through
My life is not the same now, Lord
I owe it all to You
You shine in darkness, from within
You fill my lamp with oil
You give me all I need to walk
In step with You, no foil
Keep me on this humble path
To walk upright with You
So I may be a light that shines
For others to turn to You
Amen to the One who gave it all
Amen to the One who lives
I shan’t forget the day we met
When my life laid down to give
